Announcing a New Journal: Access to Justice in the Middle East!
Access to Justice in the Middle East (AJME) is a new, peer-reviewed, open-access journal and the latest addition to the "Access to Justice" family of publications. Following the successful model of its flagship predecessor, Access to Justice in Eastern Europe , AJME is dedicated to fostering scholarly dialogue on legal development, judicial reform, and the rule of law.
Aim and Scope
The primary goal of AJME is to provide a scholarly platform for sharing research and fostering discussion on judicial, civil, and criminal procedure reforms and their impact on access to justice throughout the Middle East. The journal's scope is defined by the region’s distinctive legal landscape, which features a dynamic interplay of civil law, common law, and Islamic legal traditions.
A key area of interest for the journal is the study of transitional justice in the region's post-conflict societies. We particularly encourage submissions that analyze legal responses to mass human rights violations, mechanisms for truth and reconciliation, institutional reforms, and other efforts to rebuild trust in the rule of law and contribute to sustainable peace.
AJME invites both theoretical and practice-oriented research, welcoming comparative and region-specific studies that offer perspectives from the Middle East and other areas undergoing significant legal transformation.
Language Policy
While AJME, like all journals in the "Access to Justice" family, is an English-language publication to ensure a broad international readership, we also recognize the unifying role of the Arabic language across the region. To enhance accessibility for local scholars, all articles will be accompanied by abstracts in Arabic. Furthermore, the journal will publish select articles in Arabic, providing a unique opportunity for researchers to engage with and contribute to the scholarly discourse in their native language.
Editorial Leadership
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Sc. Iryna Izarova, Editor-in-Chief of the AJ Family of Journals, we are thrilled to announce that Dr. Maya Khater will serve as the founding Editor-in-Chief of AJME. Dr. Khater is an Associate Professor in Public International Law at Abu Dhabi University and a highly respected scholar with extensive expertise in public international law, human rights, and international criminal law. Her experience as an author, reviewer, and qualified science editor makes her exceptionally well-suited to lead AJME to academic excellence.
