Announcing a New Journal: Access to Justice in the Middle East!

We are pleased to announce the launch of Access to Justice in the Middle East (AJME), a new, peer-reviewed journal expanding the "Access to Justice" family of publications.

Our new journal joins its successful predecessor, Access to Justice in Eastern Europe (AJEE) — an Open Access journal recognized and indexed by leading international databases. AJEE is indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection (Emerging Source Citation Index, Q2 in Law) and in Scopus, Elsevier (Scimago ranking: Q2). AJEE is also listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), ERIH Plus, UlrichWeb, and HeinOnline.

Aim and Scope

The primary goal of AJME is to provide a scholarly platform for sharing research and fostering discussion on judicial, civil, and criminal procedure reforms and their impact on access to justice throughout the Middle East. The journal's scope is defined by the region’s distinctive legal landscape, which features a dynamic interplay of civil law, common law, and Islamic legal traditions.

A key area of interest for the journal is the study of transitional justice in the region's post-conflict societies. We particularly encourage submissions that analyze legal responses to mass human rights violations, mechanisms for truth and reconciliation, institutional reforms, and other efforts to rebuild trust in the rule of law and contribute to sustainable peace.

AJME invites both theoretical and practice-oriented research, welcoming comparative and region-specific studies that offer perspectives from the Middle East and other areas undergoing significant legal transformation.

A Platform for Cross-Regional Dialogue

With the launch of AJME, we are creating more than just a new journal; we are establishing a unique scholarly platform dedicated to exploring the interrelated legal challenges and developments in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. We are keen to discover the rich connections between these two critical regions, both of which have profound experiences with legal transition and reform.

By bringing the legal communities of the Middle East and Eastern Europe into closer conversation, we aim to facilitate a vibrant exchange of ideas and scholarship. We believe that learning from each other's experiences will enrich both fields of study and contribute to a more nuanced and global understanding of how the rule of law and access to justice are advanced. AJME, alongside its sister journal AJEE, will serve as a vital nexus for this important work.

Language Policy

While AJME, like all journals in the "Access to Justice" family, is an English-language publication to ensure a broad international readership, we also recognize the unifying role of the Arabic language across the region. To enhance accessibility for local scholars, all articles will be accompanied by abstracts in Arabic. Furthermore, the journal will publish select articles in Arabic, providing a unique opportunity for researchers to engage with and contribute to the scholarly discourse in their native language.
